Blacksmith Forged Hoe found at Willowbrook

This is an 18th or early 19th century blacksmith made forged iron hoe, found in the yard at Willowbrook / Byrnside’s Fort.  We did a little preservation work on it, and it came out great.  These are common finds on 18th century American sites, and were likely an important part of farming on the Virginia frontier.  You find this design all the way up through the Civil War era.

Not for sale.  In the Scavengeology Museum collection.
